All cannabis strains are classified into several categories that determine the main morphological and psychoactive properties of the plant. Within these categories, strains can also vary according to the region in which they are grown.
Indica
Indica cannabis comes from mountainous, dry and hot regions such as Afghanistan, southern India, Pakistan, Lebanon, Morocco and Nepal. It is characterised by a bushy, branched structure, short plant height and intense resin production. The leaves are elongated with short ‘fingers’ and the buds are massive and dense. The high resin content makes Indica ideal for hashish production. Indica’s effects are hypnotic, relaxing, pain relieving, muscle relaxing and appetite stimulating. Sativa
Sativa grows in humid tropical regions such as Colombia, Mexico, USA, Brazil, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Jamaica. Sativa plants are tall and large, with a long maturation period that requires large amounts of water. Their leaves are elongated with long ‘fingers’. Buds are large but sparse and light. Sativa has an intense aroma, often with strong citrus and pine notes.
Its effects are stimulating, uplifting and inspiring.

Hybrids Hybrids offer a combination of effects that are often more interesting and profound than the classic stone effect of Indica or the cerebral high of Sativa. Hybrids are easier to grow and more resistant to stress factors.
Hybrids can be dominated by either Indica or Sativa, or a balanced mix of both genotypes. Typically, hybrids are medium sized plants with unique characteristics.
Auto-flowering and photoperiod strains
All the strains above can be found in both classic photoperiod and auto-flowering versions. Photoperiod strains continue their vegetative growth until daylight shortens, allowing them to reach significant sizes and produce the largest harvests. Auto-flowering plants transition to flowering after 3-4 weeks of vegetative growth, regardless of light conditions. These plants are smaller but their maturation cycle is typically around 3 months.
